Prayer for our Earth, our Home
Scripture: Gen 2:4-8,15
In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise up from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground—then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man became a living being. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and to keep it.
Our Creator, Who art in heaven
as well as immanently established in Your creation.
Hallowed and praised be Your name!
Your kingdom come, Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven, especially in matters
of our being stewards caring for your creation.
Give us this day, our daily bread,
and call us each day to care for our home, Earth,
and all life that it sustains.
Forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into sloth, lukewarmness, and temptation;
but deliver us from evil,
Set our hearts afire, energize our bodies to commit to at least
one action that will sustain life in our 21st century technical world.
For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
