Sr. Rita Mary taught for years in Omaha, Detroit, and Massena. She was a teacher, principal, and administrator. She retired years ago, but not really. Sr. Rita Mary Morrissette may be 91 years old but in her words, “I didn’t really retire, I more retreaded myself.”
Sr. Rita Mary can be seen daily in the sewing room or working at the reception desk at the Motherhouse in Omaha. She is always staying busy.
Sr. Rita Mary works with Srs. Ann Howarth, and Midge Peterson to make bags, aprons, coasters, quilts, table runners, hats, amongst other things.
“I’ve been sewing since I was in High School.” She would make her own clothing and even made habits for herself and other sisters when she first entered the Servants of Mary.
Sister also relieves Irene during lunch break and works the desk over the weekends.
Sr. Rita Mary show that just because you are retired doesn’t mean that you are not doing anything, but that your ministry can change into something that you love doing.
